Give it All Away 💸
Forbes calls this man “The James Bond Of Philanthropy” for good reason. Chuck Feeney, one-time billionaire has completed his goal of giving away the majority of his multi-billion-dollar fortune before the end of his life.
This week, he shut down his 38-year old Atlantic Philanthropies after he completed donating all the cash, he had available. His donation history includes $3.7 billion to education, $870 million to fight for human rights, $62 million to abolishing the death penalty in the United States and much more. Arguably, his biggest accomplishments would be his contributions to the modernizing of Vietnam’s healthcare system and bringing peace to Northern Ireland.
His philanthropic success is directly in-line with his standards of execution in business. He amassed his large fortune by being the co-founder of retail giant Duty Free Shoppers.
Now, Feeney lives in a small apartment in San Francisco with his wife and they have set aside around $2 million for their retirement. Warren Buffett told Forbes when asked for a comment. “If you have the right heroes in life, you’re 90% of the way home. Chuck Feeney is a good hero to have.”
